The end of Life as we know it
|
The creative team behind hit drama Life on Mars have today revealed that the second series, which is set to go out on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE in early 2007, will mark the thrilling finale of the smash hit show.
Μύ
Fans will finally learn the truth about time-travelling DI Sam Tyler (John Simm) and how he came to be stuck in 1973.
Μύ
"We decided that Sam's journey should have a finite lifespan and a clear-cut ending and we feel that we have now reached that point after two series; so, although it is sad that we have just finished filming Sam's final scenes, it's also been an incredibly exciting few days!" explains writer and co-creator Matthew Graham.
Μύ
Executive Producer Jane Featherstone adds: "Obviously, we will not be revealing in advance what eventually happens to Sam as we wouldn't want to spoil everyone's enjoyment of the second half of his story when they watch series two.
Μύ
"But they can certainly expect some shocking revelations. We have even filmed two endings because we want to keep everyone guessing until the very end."
Μύ
Executive Producer Claire Parker says: "We were blown away by the reaction to the first series and of course it was tempting to go beyond two series, but we felt strongly that Sam's story reaches its natural and explosive climax after two.
Μύ
"Hopefully, we will leave the audience wanting more yet having fond memories of Life on Mars for years to come.
Μύ
"And because the high-concept nature of the show has proved so popular, we are already developing a new idea with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ - so watch this space!"
Μύ
Series two is directed by SJ Clarkson, Richard Clark and Andrew Gunn and the producer is Cameron Roach (Footballers' Wives).
Μύ
Claire Parker, producer of series one, is now an Executive Producer with Jane Featherstone and Matthew Graham.
Μύ
Series two of Life on Mars is commissioned by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales Head of Drama, Julie Gardner, and joint Head of Independent drama commissioning, John Yorke - and is due to transmit on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE in the New Year.
