Doctor Who Cardiff spectacular in aid of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need


Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales and the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Chorus of Wales, Sunday 19 November 2006, Wales Millennium Centre

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales's multi-Bafta award-winning drama Doctor Who and the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales are set to work together to stage a spectacular one-off event in Cardiff in aid of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need on 19 November.

The star-studded concert - which will take place at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff - will feature the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales performing selections of Murray Gold's celebrated incidental score, accompanied by a host of stunning visuals from the most recent series of Doctor Who.

The audience can also expect live appearances from some of The Doctor's greatest enemies including the infamous Daleks and the villainous Cybermen.

David Tennant, who plays the time travelling Doctor, has confirmed that he will be on hand to take part in a question and answer session alongside Doctor Who writer and Executive Producer Russell T Davies and Murray Gold.

The concert will be recorded by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Wales, to be aired at a later date.

It will also be filmed by Doctor Who Confidential for a special documentary to be shown later in the year.

Russell T Davies said: "We are delighted to join forces with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales in aid of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need. The evening promises to be an audio visual spectacular.

Doctor Who is made by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales and the majority of scenes are filmed in South Wales.

The Wales Millennium Centre itself has featured in two episodes: Boom Town - an episode in series one based in modern Cardiff - and, in series two, where the building doubled as a futuristic hospital on the planet New Earth.

Ticket prices will include a donation to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need and the official programme will also have proceeds going to the appeal.

Doctor Who - A Celebration takes place at 6.30pm on Sunday 19 November 2006.

Tickets are priced at Β£20, Β£16, Β£14, and Β£10. Tickets for children under the age of 16 will be half price.

Murray Gold is one of the most inspired and uncompromising composers in his field.

From his groundbreaking Bafta nominated score to Vanity Fair to his Royal Television Society Award-winning soundtrack to Queer as Folk, Murray Gold has been the composer of choice when it comes to scoring the most innovative programmes on television.

Since 2005, he has served as musical director for the new series of Doctor Who. In this capacity, he created a new arrangement of the show's theme and also composes most of the show's incidental music.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales is the Orchestra in Residence at St David's Hall, Cardiff at which it gives 20 performances a year.
