Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms showcases best new music films of 2006


The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ today announces the film programme for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms taking place from 25 to 29 October 2006 in the FREEDM Studios at the Roundhouse, Camden, London.

One of the highlights of the schedule includes the world premiere of a new Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TWO Arena documentary on Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, which will open the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms festival on Wednesday 25 October.

There will also be a screening of Stewart Copeland's directorial debut Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out, which charts the rise of The Police, with a Q&A session with the man himself.

The film strand of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms will feature free film screenings at the Roundhouse every day.

Μύ

Some of the best music films of 2006 have been selected to be screened, nearly all of which have been hits at film festivals around the world and have yet to be released in cinemas.

Each of the films will be previewed by music promos or short films linked to some of the acts performing at this year's Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms or simply stand out shorts and promos that deserve to be seen again.

3.00pm: Arena: Pete Doherty (Worldwide Premiere)

The worldwide premiere of a new Arena film about Pete Doherty at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms, before its television broadcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TWO in November.

Pete Doherty is one of the most talked about musicians of our time, but he has received as much attention for his controversial private life, as for his music.

Over several months Arena has had extensive access to Doherty, filming him on tour and at his home in London.

The film offers an insight into this complex, intriguing man who is rarely out of the media spotlight.

Dir Nathanial Hornblower aka Adam Yauch, 90min, US 2006

On 9 October 2004, the Beastie Boys performed at Madison Square Gardens and had their concert shot entirely by fans. The film was edited by MC Adam Yauch. One of the top concert films of 2006, it is out now on DVD.

A special preview of an illuminating and entertaining portrayal of John Lennon, which specifically covers his years living in the USA and his development into an increasingly political figure. This film will be in UK cinemas from 8 December, the 26th anniversary of his death.

The premiere of the short films commissioned through the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ New Music Shorts initiative run by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ New Talent and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Film Network.

This year's commissions are directed by: Gemma Burditt, Simon Burrill, Joe Tunmer, Alexander Turvey and Georgina Wu.

An outstanding film about singer, poet, songwriter and ultimate ladies man Leonard Cohen featuring interviews with and performances by U2, Rufus Wainwright, Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker and Nick Cave among others. The film will be in UK cinemas from 24 November.

Noon: Loudquietloud: a Film About The Pixies (London premiere)

A film about the Pixies and the fraught year they spent together on their reunion tour in 2004. The film will be out on DVD in the UK on 6 November and has its first London screening at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms before touring with Resfest in November.

He will discuss his career from his years as a drummer for The Police to soundtrack composing in Hollywood on productions from Rumblefish to Desperate Housewives.

Michel Gondry's brilliant Block Party film features Dave Chappelle and street performances by top hip hop artists including Kanye West, Erykah Badu, Mos Def and the first reunion of the Fugees after seven years. Another great concert film of 2006 that is out now on DVD and will be coming to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TWOin early 2007.

New Music Shorts: Premiere at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms

Along with partners Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ New Talent and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Film Network, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Electric Proms challenged new film-makers this summer to submit ideas for new music shorts inspired by tracks supplied by leading independent record labels Ninja Tune, Warp, 679 Recordings and Domino.

The tracks included songs by M Craft, Grizzly Bear, Zero DB, and Pop Levi.

The film-makers had the opportunity to win a commission, a budget of up to Β£5,000 and the chance to work with Warp Films to produce their shorts.

From more than 300 entries, five commissions were selected.
