Darren Jordon to leave Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ

Darren Jordon, a regular presenter on all of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's main news bulletins, has decided to leave the corporation after eight years to join the soon-to-be-launched Al Jazeera International.

Μύ

Darren joined Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport as a broadcast journalist in 1998, following a three-year stint as a sports broadcaster in South Africa.

Μύ

He made the move to Television News in 1999, when he became a presenter on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News 24.

Μύ

He also presented on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World, where he went on to anchor a number of international news events, before his appointment as Special Reporter for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's One O'Clock News.

Μύ

A move to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Breakfast followed, with Darren presenting the programme at weekends, and he later became a familiar face to primetime audiences when he became the regular presenter of all the weekend bulletins on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE.

Μύ

He has also presented the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Six O'Clock and Ten O'Clock news bulletins.

Μύ

Darren co-presented several major events in recent years, most notably the D-Day 60th anniversary celebrations and the Lord Mayor's Show.

Μύ

Darren said: "I've had a wonderful time at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ; I've learnt an awful lot and worked with some exceptionally talented individuals.

Μύ

"The move, however, comes at the right time for me and I look forward to the fresh challenges that it will, no doubt, present."

Μύ

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Head of Television News, Peter Horrocks, added: "I'm sorry to see Darren go. He is an extremely accomplished news presenter - always straightforward in his reporting, and rigorous but fair in his questioning. We wish him all the best for the future."

Μύ

Darren Jordon was educated in the West Indies and at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Μύ

He was an accomplished parachutist, and spent eight years in the Jamaican army, before retiring his commission as a Captain in 1986.

Μύ

He leaves the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ at the end of October 2006.
