Live commentary returns to Radio nan Gaidheal for the Auld Alliance clash

The sell-out European Championship qualifying game between Scotland and France will mark the return of live radio commentary for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland's Gaelic audience.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio nan Gaidheal last provided live coverage of a Scotland match in 1992 and the programme from Hampden Park on Saturday 7 October will run as a pilot with the prospect of commentary of major internationals in the future.

Μύ

Margaret Mary Murray, Head of Gaelic at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland, says other opportunities to commentate live during the rest of the European Championship qualifying campaign are under consideration.

Μύ

She said: "We are delighted that live football commentary is returning to our output.

Μύ

"It is one of the most important Scotland games for years and the sports team is looking forward to bringing all the action to the Radio nan Gaidheal audience as it happens.

Μύ

"I am sure it will be well received by all football fans in Gaelic-speaking communities."

Μύ

Experienced Gaelic broadcaster John Morrison, who presents the weekly sports programme SpΓ²rs na Seachdain on Saturday, will be the studio anchor for the match.

Μύ

The programme will mean a debut in the commentator's hot seat for one of the sports team at Radio nan Gaidheal.

Μύ

The new voice of live football on the station will be announced in the week leading up to the big game.

Μύ

Margaret Mary added: "Our aim is to further develop our offering to the audience in terms of sports broadcasting on Radio nan Gaidheal and who knows maybe this new development in our output will be marked by a historic victory for the national team at Hampden Park!"
