The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Big Screen, situated in Chamberlain Square, Birmingham, is inviting people to come along between 18 and 22 September 2006 and get involved with creating an ambitious dance film comprising hundreds of individual dance steps, cleverly pieced together to form one continuous dance sequence called Into Pieces.

Μύ

Between 1.00 and 2.00pm, Monday to Friday, people are encouraged to visit the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Big Screen, where a dance mat is placed in front of the screen, with a fixed backdrop placed behind it.

Μύ

People are then asked to stand on the dance mat and each perform a single choreographed dance step which is then filmed.

Μύ

These individual dance steps, each one performed by a different person, are then edited together into a continuous sequence to form a dance film in which each frame and each dance movement form a choreographed piece of visual art, made up from hundreds of people.

Μύ

The dance steps will be filmed and collected from Monday to Thursday - then edited together and played out several times on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Big Screen on Friday lunchtime, so that people can come back and see their contribution to the collaborative piece of work.

Μύ

There are two film crews on hand during the week: one of the crews will film the individual dance steps to be put together for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Big Screen on Friday and the other is putting all the live action from the dance mat directly onto the screen.

Μύ

The Into Pieces concept was created by a local artist called Babis Alexiadis. The idea behind the project was to create a collaborative piece of visual art involving individuals participating from the community where Babis lives and works.

Μύ

Geraldine McCullagh, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Big Screen Birmingham Co-ordinator, says: "This is another first for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Big Screen Birmingham or indeed any big screen - I'm really excited that the screen is being used to help create and show a dance film involving hundreds of passers-by - it's real community art."

Μύ

Every person who performs a single dance step to go towards the making of the choreographed sequence receives a badge as recognition of their contribution.

Μύ

The badges will display the date, time and location where they can go and view the finished film and see their contribution to a piece of community-inspired visual art.
