Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport website and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔi post record figures for the World Cup

The busiest two weeks in the football calendar has driven mass consumption of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's World Cup website (bbc.co.uk/worldcup) and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔi with both services experiencing record levels of usage during the World Cup.

Μύ

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Cup website has received 200 million page impressions* in its first fortnight, with around three million unique users accessing bbc.co.uk/sport every day.

Μύ

Additionally broadband streaming has been a technical and viewing success with more than 1.7 million requests** for the live games.

Μύ

On digital TV a further 4.6 million*** viewers have accessed Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔi during the World Cup. With a week and a half to go both these interactive and online figures are expected to rise further still.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Director of Sport Roger Mosey said: "Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport said from the start this would be a World Cup in which we offered unprecedented choice - different platforms, new technology and an increasing range of options for viewers and listeners.

Μύ

"These figures show we've done just that, and the audience are loving it."

Μύ

Since the tournament began there have been more than 200 million page impressions on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's World Cup site.

Μύ

During the working week, when traffic has been at its busiest, the site has been averaging 14.9 million impressions and peaked at 16.6 million on Thursday 22 June.

Μύ

This World Cup is the first major football tournament where UK online users have been able to access games over broadband.

Μύ

There have been over 1.7 million requests for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's matches on broadband in the first fortnight of the World Cup, with the average match being viewed by 75,157 viewers and a daily average of 144,052 requests.

Μύ

The most watched match was the opening fixture on Friday 9 June between Germany and Costa Rica, which attracted 153,909 requests.

Μύ

The other games which pulled in over 100,000 requests were: England v Paraguay (10 June), Serbia & Montenegro v Holland (11 June), USA v Czech Republic (12 June), South Korea v Togo (13 June), Argentina v Serbia & Montenegro (16 June) and the combined 3.00pm games of Czech Republic v Italy and Ghana v USA (22 June).

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔi's red button service has also been a huge success, with 4.6 million digital satellite viewers hitting the red button during the World Cup.

Μύ

This makes it the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's best-ever interactive service after the 2004 Summer Olympics, when nine million digital satellite viewers hit the red button - although it should be noted that the Summer Olympics are more suited to interactivity given the large number of other sports that can viewed through the red button.

Μύ

This year's World Cup has already beaten the 2006 Winter Olympics for interactivity (4.3 m dsat), last year's Wimbledon (4.4 m dsat) and the 2002 World Cup (4.0 m dsat).

Μύ

Over one in four (26%) digital satellite viewers in the UK have accessed Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔi during the World Cup and of them nearly 70 per cent have spent more than three minutes using the service.
