Sara Coward as Caroline Pemberton and Michael Cochrane as Oliver Sterling

Caroline and Oliver tie the knot

It started off with a distinctly unromantic proposal over the breakfast toast but Oliver Sterling (Michael Cochrane) made it up to Caroline Pemberton (Sara Coward) with a house full of roses and soon the Ambridge villagers were toasting the happy couple's wedding (in The Archers, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4, Thursday 29 June).

Μύ

They pair agreed to a small wedding, held at Grey Gables, with only family members and close friends invited.

Μύ

Shula is Caroline's choice of witness; while Oliver - ignorant of the fact that his new wife once had an affair with him - plumps for Brian Aldridge!

Μύ

The newly-weds are spending a few days in Scotland for their honeymoon, where they will take in The Game Conservancy Country Fair held in Perth between Thursday 29 June and Sunday 2 July.

Notes to Editors

Μύ

Caroline Pemberton

Μύ

A relation of Lord Netherbourne and best friend to Shula Hebden Lloyd, Caroline has been bringing a touch of class to Ambridge since 1977.

Μύ

In 2006, she and Oliver bought Grey Gables Hotel, formerly owned by Jack Woolley, for whom she managed the hotel.

Μύ

After 20 years of serial disasters (including an affair with Brian Aldridge, of which new husband Oliver knows nothing) she married landowner Guy Pemberton. But his heart attack six months later left her a widow - albeit a wealthy one.

Μύ

Oliver Sterling

Μύ

Oliver's marriage to his ex-wife was a traditional one. He ran a large farm (in the north of the county) and she was the homemaker, bringing up their son and two daughters.

Μύ

He was happy, but it wasn't enough for Jane.

Μύ

Following their divorce Oliver bought Grange Farm, intending to do a bit of hobby farming on its 50 acres. As joint master of the South Borsetshire Hunt Oliver met Caroline and they soon fell in love.

Μύ

She moved in with him in 2003 and before long they realised they both had more love to give: Oliver having missed out on much of the pleasure of fatherhood, and Caroline reflecting on the satisfaction that her godson, William Grundy, had brought her.

Μύ

They took the brave decision to offer themselves as foster carers and embarked on the long process of training and assessment. Most recently they fostered Carly who was invited to their wedding.
