Blue Peter Safari Adventure at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms

Classical music extravaganza designed especially for children - 22 and 23 July, 11.00am to 1.00pm, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Gore, London

Μύ

  • World premiere public performance of new Blue Peter theme tune
  • Last chance to meet presenter Matt Baker - programme signing after the Prom
  • Join in a fun-packed music workshop with top musicians
  • Blue Peter competition winners play on stage with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Philharmonic

Μύ

There is a special treat in store for children and their families at this year's Blue Peter Prom as the new version of the programme's famous theme tune, Barnacle Bill, receives its world premiere performance.

Μύ

Arranged by British composer Murray Gold, who re-arranged the Doctor Who theme for the programme's revival, the tune is still easily recognisable but has been given a whole new sound to keep it up-to-date.

Μύ

It is performed on stage at London's Royal Albert Hall by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Philharmonic and charismatic 26-year-old conductor Alexander Shelley.

Μύ

The Blue Peter Prom for children is a key fixture in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms season, and is so popular that it is the only Prom to be staged twice.

Μύ

This year's concert takes the audience on an exciting musical safari adventure, with music including songs from The Jungle Book, Saint-SaΓ«ns's Carnival of the Animals plus Stravinsky's Firebird.

Μύ

New Zealand-born baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes, the flamboyant Micallef-Inanga piano duo and the Islington Music Centre Children's Choir also perform, with lots of audience participation and plenty of surprises in store.

Μύ

The Sunday concert is broadcast live on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3.

Μύ

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms concert will also be one of the last chances for fans to meet much-loved Blue Peter presenter Matt Baker and say goodbye, as he is set to leave the show after seven years.

Μύ

He and fellow host Zöe Salmon are signing programmes and postcards for audience members at the Royal Albert Hall, immediately following the concerts.

Μύ

Each concert is followed by a fun-packed music workshop lasting 90 minutes. This is a chance for children and families to meet professional musicians and animateurs, and take part in practical music-making fun.

Μύ

Held in the Royal College of Art, next door to the Royal Albert Hall, tickets are a steal at just Β£2 per person and can be booked via the Royal Albert Hall box office - details below. The workshops are targeted at children aged 7 to 77 years!

Μύ

As part of the concert performance, 40 young musicians from around the country join the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Philharmonic on stage - a rare opportunity for talented young people to play alongside the top professional musicians of the orchestra in one of the highest profile concerts of the season.

Μύ

These are the same children who helped re-arrange and record the new theme tune as part of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's recent Blue Peter Music Makers scheme, which will be heard regularly when the show returns to people's screens after the summer break.

Μύ

Music Makers was a nationwide competition launched at the beginning of the year by Blue Peter and was open to young musicians and non-musicians alike.

Μύ

From nearly 26,000 entries, auditions were held around the country from which the final 40 winners from all over the UK (aged between 9 and 15) were selected to attend a residential workshop with composer Murray Gold and members of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Philharmonic, culminating in the recording of the new piece.

Μύ

The Blue Peter Proms have become a regular feature in the Proms schedule and are part of the ongoing mission to introduce new audiences to live classical music.

Μύ

Blue Peter Prom tickets are priced at Β£10 for adults and Β£5 for under 16s, and are available in person from the Royal Albert Hall box office (no booking fee) or via telephone 020 7589 8212 and online at bbc.co.uk/proms (Β£2.50 booking fee applies).
