Services To Jazz In The UK

Μύ

The Services to Jazz Award 2006 will be presented to trumpeter, band leader, writer and broadcaster Ian Carr, a man who has dedicated over 40 years of his life to pioneering the many movements of British jazz.

Μύ

During his highly respected playing career, Carr was responsible for the formation of the Rendell-Carr quintet with Don Rendell and the ground-breaking jazz-rock band Nucleus as well as being a highly sought after sideman.

Μύ

He has written biographies of jazz musicians Keith Jarrett and Miles Davis and is the co-author of reference works such as The Rough Guide to Jazz.

Μύ

Lifetime Achievement

Μύ

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is delighted to present the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award to Quincy Delight Jones Jr, better known to his friends and the industry as 'Q'.

Μύ

In the Fifties the trumpeter started arranging and recording with a diverse range of artists including Sarah Vaughan, Ray Charles, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington and Cannonball Adderly.

Μύ

He is the all-time most nominated Grammy artist, with a total of 76 nominations and 26 awards, and has also received an Emmy Award, seven Oscar nominations, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts.

Μύ

He has written scores for many blockbuster films including Kill Bill and The Italian Job (original). Quincy became the most sought after producer when Michael Jackson's first solo album Off the Wall sold eight million copies making Jackson an international superstar.

Μύ

The pair teamed again in 1982 to make Thriller. It became the best selling album of all time, selling over 30 million copies around the globe and spawning an unprecedented six Top Ten singles, including Billie Jean, Beat It and Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'.

Μύ

Jones also produced the popular NBC-TV series Fresh Prince of Bel Air. There is nothing that this man has touched which has not turned to gold. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is delighted to honour him this year with The Lifetime Achievement Award.
