A powerful Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland documentary about the lives of young asylum seekers has won the Amnesty International Scottish Media Award.

Μύ

Tales from the Edge: Glasgow Girls will now go forward to Amnesty International's UK Media Awards ceremony in London on 27 June 2006.

Μύ

Produced by Lindsay Hill, the inspirational film focused on four teenage friends who had been living in Glasgow for six years with the knowledge that one-by-one they could be removed from the country.

Μύ

During filming, the friends' worst fears were realised when one of the girls was taken with her family at dawn to a holding centre for asylum seekers.

Μύ

The film, which featured video diaries from the girls, was highly commended by Scotland's Children's Commissioner, Professor Kathleen Marshall.

Μύ

It also provided the catalyst for a huge public and Scottish Parliamentary campaign to oppose the 'dawn raids' on asylum seeker children resident in Scotland.

Μύ

Producer Lindsay Hill said: "An accolade like this from such a vitally important organisation makes me feel as if all the hard work, late nights and intensity were worthwhile. This award is for the Glasgow Girls as much as it is for me."
