Comedy is about to be taken seriously at bbc.co.uk, by virtue of a new site, Comedy Soup, that supports up-and-coming talent and showcases it to members of the public - including Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ comedy producers.
Μύ
Based on the same principles as the hugely successful Film Network, Comedy Soup (bbc.co.uk/comedysoup) provides a virtual stage for both comedy amateurs and aficionados.
Μύ
It offers them a virtual stage on which to learn their art and perform their material, including tips from Comedy Soup's expert guides and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ video, audio and images to help them create and perfect their work.
Μύ
Users create a profile on the site, to which they can they link material, effectively creating an online portfolio for talent-spotters.
Μύ
At the same time, comedy-lovers and professionals alike can use the site to get their comedy-fix, express their views by rating a piece of work, share a comment and leave messages for other users - or simply surf the site in a bid to find the next rising star.
Μύ
Comedy Soup site editor, Vicky Dolan, says: "Like Film Network, Comedy Soup creates an on online community of comedic talent aimed at anyone who wants to make people laugh, or wants to get into the business.
Μύ
"In addition to the simple entertainment value, the site offers advice and tips for those who want to get into comedy and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ material that people can make use of.
Μύ
"It's also a great resource for professionals who will be invited to surf the site to look for the comedy producers and actors of the future."
Μύ
Comedy Soup launches mid-March, but will be partnering with one of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's channels later in the year to kick start a new talent search.
