Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Governors are continuing their roadshow of public meetings around the country, with their next event taking place in Cardiff on Wednesday 22 February 2006.

Μύ

The meetings are designed to give audiences outside of London the chance to question the Board and have their say on the programmes and services they pay for through their licence fee.

Μύ

Most recently, the Governors were in Glasgow to address questions from Scottish licence fee payers.

Μύ

In the summer around 150 members of the public attended the Governors' Annual General Meeting, the first in this new style of event.

Μύ

Topics discussed ranged from programme quality, impartiality, digital access and getting value for money from the licence fee.

Μύ

The roadshow of public meetings is one of a number of initiatives introduced by the Governors over the past year to improve transparency and accountability at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, and ultimately strengthen the Board's relationship with licence fee payers.

Μύ

Others include a dedicated website, which is being used for direct engagement with audiences through a Have Your Say feature; public consultations; radio phone-ins; and publication of Governors' meeting minutes in full.

Μύ

The annual objectives set by Governors for management at the start of the current financial year were informed, for the first time, by audience research about the issues licence fee payers wanted to be addressed.

Μύ

The National Broadcasting Councils and English National Forum, made up of members of the public, also play an important role in giving licence payers a voice.

Μύ

The Broadcasting Council for Wales recently held a well attended event in Carmarthen.

Μύ

Members of the public interested in attending the event in Wales can apply online at bbcgovernors.co.uk or via a freephone number: 0800 068 0116, Minicom: 0800 015 3350

Μύ

The meeting will also be streamed live over the Governors' website, and a summary of key themes and issues will be posted there after the event.

Μύ

The Governors' next public meeting will be held in Belfast in March.
