The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ took six of the 11 awards on offer at the British Comedy Awards last night, with The Thick of It, Little Britain and Extras claiming two prestigious awards each.

Matt Lucas and David Walliams received the award for Best TV Comedy of 2005 and the inaugural Ronnie Barker's Writer of the Year Award.

Armando Iannucci, writer and director of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR's The Thick of It, received the award for Best New Comedy, and Chris Langham won the award for Best Comedy Actor for his portrayal of Government minister Hugh Abbott, as well as his performance in Help. The series will air on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TWO from Monday 2 January.

Ashley Jensen, Ricky Gervais' acclaimed co-star in Extras, won two awards, Best TV Comedy Actress and Best Comedy Newcomer.
