The nominations have been announced for the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 2 Folk Awards 2006, one of the highlights of the folk scene's year.

Categories include Musician of the Year, Best Group, Best Live Act, Best Album, Best Original Song and the prestigious Folk Singer of the Year award.

A panel of more than 150 folk music professionals have registered their nominations in this year's awards, the seventh.
Ìý
The shortlist of the top four nominations in each category was announced last night - Wednesday 23 November - on Mike Harding's weekly Radio 2 folk show.
Ìý
The panel will now vote again and the winners will be announced at the Radio 2 Folk Awards 2006, held on Monday 6 February at The Brewery, London.
Ìý
Hosted by Mike Harding, highlights will be broadcast on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 2 on Wednesday 8 February.
Ìý
Radio 2 listeners are also invited to vote for the Most Influential Album of the All Time.

Among the 2006 Radio 2 Folk Award nominees are:

Highly regarded singer, guitarist and musical arranger John Tams, who has five nominations this year, in the categories Best Original Song, Best Traditional Song, Best Album, Best Duo (with Barry Coope) and Folk Singer of the Year.
Ìý
Fiddle and accordion musical partners John Spiers and Jon Boden are nominated once again for Best Duo, which they won in 2004, and Best Traditional Track with Bold Sir Rylas.
Their band, Bellowhead, pick up two nominations for both Best Group and Best Live Act - a category which includes a nomination for Eliza Carthy & The Ratcatchers, with whom John and Jon also play.

Two nominees for last year's Horizon Award, Karine Polwart and Seth Lakeman, are nominated for Folk Singer of the Year.

Karine scooped three awards last year, and Seth was included in this year's Mercury Music Prize shortlist.
Ìý
The emerging talents of Jim Causley, Rosie Doonan and Ben Murray, Julie Fowlis and James Raynard are recognised with their nominations in the Horizon Award category.
