Β£17m raised by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need so far.
They've done it again! The British public have beaten all previous records, raising a staggering Β£17,235,256 in the 26th Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children In Need appeal on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE.

Performances from Madonna, Liberty X, the casts of EastEnders, Emmerdale, Doctor Who, Catherine Tate and many more inspired the public to pledge the money which beat last year's record-breaking on-the-night total which was also just over the Β£17m mark.

And there is still more to come as the public continue to send in all the money raised from fundraising events across the UK in a bid to beat Β£34.2m raised in 2004.

Liberty X kicked off the celebrations in disco-diva style with the official Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need single A Night To Remember and Madonna gave a show-stopping rendition of her number one single Hung Up.

Viewers pledged their millions to see a special Doctor Who scene written exclusively for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need starring David Tennant as the tenth Time Lord and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler and a sketch that saw Dead Ringers' frontman Jon Culshaw doorstep Tony Blair.

Bruce Forsyth proved that he could teach the Strictly Come Dancing judges a few moves in a spectacular tap dance-off with John Humphrys and our very own Terry Wogan.

Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) didn't know what to say when Lauren, the ever-bovvered Catherine Tate, showed up in The Vic for a showdown with Stacey Slater.

And of course, the night would not have been complete without the much loved legendary performance from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News Readers, who donned their rock gear and let loose to Queen's hit Bohemian Rhapsody.

Terry Wogan, the breakdancing granddaddy of the show, saw a few jaws drop as he breakdanced his way onto the stage.

Joined by two new glamorous co-presenters, Natasha Kaplinsky and Fearne Cotton, the tireless trio presented the seven-hour broadcasting marathon, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's biggest broadcasting event which links Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ centres all over the country.

Also contributing to the appeal total is the Β£758,220 raised to date on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE's The Great Big Bid.

The programme gave viewers the chance to auction off their unwanted household treasures online to raise money as well as auctioning off some spectacular items such as the chance to appear alongside Tiger Woods in his new PGA Tour 2007 video game which went for an amazing Β£60,000 at The Great Big Bid Charity Gala Auction which raised nearly half a million pounds.

Star Items auctioned on the website included a personal love song written by Jamie Cullum which went for Β£3,600.

Iconic Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ items and amazing experiences including a signed copy of the script from the last ever episode of Monarch of the Glen which went for Β£920.

And even if you didn't want to bid a fortune you could Bid A Quid to win experiences such as chance to host a your own one-off show on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 or play golf with Nick Faldo.

At the time of going to press items you can still bid for include a chance to be Girls Aloud for a day currently at Β£2,500 or fly to Denmark with Duran Duran in their private jet - with a VIP hotel stay and the best seats in the house and lots of other goodies thrown in - currently at Β£9,100.

And Terry's Money Can't Buy auction on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 together with listeners' pledges to hear their favourite music raised a spectacular Β£1,066,667.

The highest bid was for Β£50,000 to spend a weekend in the wild with survival-expert Ray Mears, Chris Evans and his Radio 2 colleague, Big Pete.
