During the Second World War, the country needed people to sign up to fight for freedom. Now, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Birmingham is looking to recruit people to share their memories from this period with its Tea and Tales event.

Μύ

To help commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Birmingham holds a wartime storytelling weekend at its Mailbox headquarters between Friday 11 and Sunday 13 November between 10.00am and 2.00pm.

Μύ

The event gives people the chance to add their stories to the online archive.

Μύ

This could be how people celebrated a wedding during rationing; how they adapted to life while their loved ones were away; even fashion tips from the period are welcome. in fact any recollections of life during the Second World War, regardless of whether they're happy or sad.

Μύ

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ People's War team is also available to lend a hand - they're looking forward to meeting as many people as possible and hope they can bring along photos and memorabilia which can then be photographed and put onto the website.

Μύ

Visitors can also see films of wartime memories, made by the people who lived them.

Μύ

The event also includes the chance to:

Μύ

Meet home front re-enactors from the land army, munitions factory and Women's Voluntary Service*;

Μύ

See displays of wartime artefacts and photographs from Birmingham City archives;

Μύ

Explore the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ People's War website;

Μύ

Share a cup of tea and swap stories with veterans of the Second World War;

Μύ

Observe the two-minute silence on 11 and 13 November.

Μύ

With the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ People's War website closing to public contributions on 31 December 2005, this event offers people a last chance to archive their memories for future generations to benefit from.

Μύ

*Available on 12-13 November only, owing to technical restrictions.
