Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1's Big Weekend to rock Sunderland

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1's Big Weekend, set to be the biggest and best free music event this summer, is coming to Sunderland from 7 to 8 May for an amazing weekend.


Top artists including Gwen Stefani, Foo Fighters, The Black Eyed Peas, Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx will play to 30,000 people next to Penshaw Monument, Herrington Park, during two days of live bands and world class DJs.


The event will be on Radio 1 across the weekend.


Radio 1's Big Weekend is a free event and 15,000 tickets will be available for each day.


Radio 1 is holding two ticket giveaways on Saturday 23 April and Sunday 24 April in the Civic Centre car park, Sunderland.


Saturday's giveaway is for Saturday's tickets and Sunday's is for Sunday's tickets.


The ticket office opens at noon each day and will close once all the tickets have gone. People are encouraged to get there early to avoid disappointment.

Radio 1 DJs including Chris Moyles, Colin and Edith, JK and Joel and Zane Lowe will be introducing the bands on stage and broadcasting live from the event.


To get people warmed up for Radio 1's Big Weekend, the station will also broadcast programmes live from Sunderland in the week leading up to the event.


Chris Moyles will broadcast live from Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light on Friday 6 May and the legendary Pete Tong will get the weekend started with his show coming from the bar Pure.

Chris Moyles, Radio 1 DJ, said: "Radio 1's Big Weekend is going to be brilliant this year. It's such an incredible Line-up and I'm going to be there too so it just can't fail."
