Digital TV - What is it all about, why is it taking over from analogue
and how on earth does it all work?
If you do not know your idTV from your PVR then the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ offers you
the chance to find out.
Yes, the people in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Birmingham's Public Space, who are responsible
for meeting and greeting viewers and listeners, have been so overwhelmed
with the amount of interest on the future of broadcasting, they have
set aside between 10.00am and 3.00pm on Friday 1 April to provide the
answers to everybody's digital dilemmas.
The digital drop-in day allows you to pop into the Public Space to
quiz the experts. They can provide the answers first hand or give you
a free fact sheet to take away.
When it comes to digital services, this team knows all the answers
to questions like: how can I get digital? Can I get Freeview in my area?
What is audio description? And a lot more besides.
If you cannot make it to the Public Space, then you can tune in to
95.6FM on the same day as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ WM Ed Doolan's phone-in
between 11.00am and noon is dedicated to the subject of digital services.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ team will set up the digital drop-in desk in the Public Space
on level 7 of The Mailbox between 10.00am and 3.00pm on Friday 1 April.

idTV stands for integrated digital television. It's a TV with a set-top
box built in, providing you with access to the full line-up of Freeview
channels and services.
PVR stands for personal video recorder. It records TV programmes on
to a built-in hard drive, instead of on to videotape or DVD.
The advantages of a PVR are that it has an integrated programme guide,
you can pause live TV, record whole series and it has much more recording
time than a standard VHS cassette.
