A new series of folk music programmes for North Yorkshire is to be launched on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio York on Wednesday 16 March.

Ìý

The programmes will be hosted by Michael Brothwell who has worked previously for the station and broadcasts on student radio at the University of York.

Ìý

Radio York Managing Editor Matt Youdale said: "We have deliberately chosen this time and day to dovetail with Mike Harding on Radio 2.

Ìý

"Our programme will be heavily music-based but we also hope to carry some interviews and live performances - and an events diary for North Yorkshire.

Ìý

"Ever since Henry Ayrton's Thursday show finished in this region, I have said that I wanted to introduce a folk programme of our own.

Ìý

"It has taken a while to find a suitable presenter, but at last we're there."

Ìý

Michael, 22, plays the classical piano and violin.

Ìý

He has been interested in folk music from childhood and is looking forward to presenting the new show.

Ìý

He said: "We want to highlight North Yorkshire artists and give them a new platform but we don't want to be cliquy so we'll also be playing well-known and national artists."

Ìý

North Yorkshire Folk will be broadcast between 7.00 and 8.00pm on Wednesdays.

Ìý

Anyone with suggestions, feedback and information can contact Michael at: michael.brothwell@bbc.co.uk
