Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE Northern Ireland will have a special programme this Sunday (13
March) celebrating the success of Methodist College, Belfast at this
year's Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition.
Methodist College Junior Choir were crowned Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 Children's
Choir of the Year 2005 at the prestigious finals held in The Lowry in
Salford.
Seventy-seven children from the College aged 11 to 14 travelled to
the final.
The competition attracted 134 choirs from across the UK with six choirs,
two from each of the three categories, winning through to the final.
Methodist College Junior Choir won their category - Children's Choir of the Year - at their first attempt. The two other categories were Adult
Choir of the Year and Youth Choir of the Year.
The programme hears from the children who took part, following them
during their trip to Salford with the nerves backstage before going
on and the nail-biting wait for the result.
The children also talk about what it was like to take part in the competition,
the hard work rehearsing and what it was like to win.
The programme also hears from Conductor Lynda Barrett, Musical Director
Ruth McCartney and Headmaster Dr Mulryne.
The programme features the music the choir performed at the event as
well as additional pieces recorded at the College which the choir will
perform at their Easter concert in the Waterfront Hall.
The half-hour programme, Choir Of The Year 2005, is on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE Northern
Ireland on Sunday 13 March at 6.25pm.
