The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's China Week - a week of themed news reports and programmes exploring one of the world's most dynamic countries - will run globally from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 March on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service radio and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World television.

Μύ

More than 60 journalists and programme makers will visit seven cities and many rural locations to gather material and highlight some of the major economic and social changes involving China in recent times.

Μύ

On Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service, flagship programmes including The World Today and Newshour will be broadcast from Beijing and Shanghai, with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's correspondents in China joining presenters Robin Lustig and Carrie Gracie to cover issues such as:

Μύ

Economic developments, with special features on Shanghai entrepreneurs; the car industry and pollution; education; migrant workers; the media; and political and religious freedom

Μύ

Discussions with China's 'new faces', including: Jimmy Ye, the racing tycoon; Zhang Xin, the property developer; Chen Luyu, known as China's Oprah Winfrey; Ai Weiwei, the artist and designer of the Beijing Olympic stadium.

Μύ

A round-table discussion on China's place in the world, presented from China, with an international panel in London, Washington and elsewhere.

Μύ

Interviews with celebrities including: Tang Jun, the former President of Microsoft China; Colonel Yang Liwei, the country's first astronaut; Jet Li, the martial arts hero.

Μύ

China's World is a five-part documentary running through the week, which looks at the profound influence that China has on the world's economy.

Μύ

Argentina, Sierra Leone, Romania, France, India and Kazakhstan are among the countries that Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondents have visited to observe the influence that China's economic power has on regional economies and the lives of ordinary people.

Μύ

Global Business investigates why Chinese business is important not only domestically but for the rest of the world.

Μύ

Peter Day hosts a round table discussion in Beijing featuring: Wang Huiyao, a returnee economist with the Chamber of Commerce; Li Yong, Assistant Dean of the Sino-US Management School; Nick Young, Editor of the China Development Brief.

Μύ

With China's impact on the world as a central theme, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service's Chinese service will examine the experiences of the Chinese diaspora, both for the impact they've had and for their views on Chinese development in the 21st century.

Μύ

There will be link-ups with four Chinese radio stations in Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and the United States, each of which will broadcast a separate joint phone-in show.

Μύ

On Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World, highlights include a special edition of the flagship political programme Question Time from Shanghai, presented by David Dimbleby.

Μύ

An international audience will quiz a panel comprising: Liu Jianchao, the Chinese government spokesman; Long Yongtu, the Chief Negotiator for the Chinese Ministry on Foreign Trade; author Jung Chang; David Tang, the fashion designer; Chris Patten, the former Hong Kong Governor and European Union Commissioner.

Μύ

David Dimbleby says: "It's a breakthrough. To have a programme from China with known critics of the Chinese government on the panel is something I never thought would happen.

Μύ

"Mounting such a democratic programme in a country that hasn't practised democracy is a big challenge and should be riveting to watch."

Μύ

Beijing Boot Camp follows children in China as they experience a period of dramatic change, the symbolic moment when they grow from childhood to adulthood.

Μύ

Teenagers spend 12 hours at school every day, starting at 6.00am and finishing with a daily exam.

Μύ

The documentary examines how they cope with their parents' expectations of success and the restrictions enforced by the government.

Μύ

The Chinese community in Kolkata is the subject of The Legend Of The Fat Mama, which offers a nostalgic journey in search of a woman who once made outstanding noodles in the eastern Indian city.

Μύ

The programme hears a number of interlinked stories including the thriving street food industry and the disappearance of family-run eateries, and discovers why there is still hurt at the treatment received by the Chinese in the aftermath of the Indo-China war, which caused many people to migrate to Canada and other countries.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service will both transmit a special edition of the award-winning interactive discussion programme Talking Point, recorded at Beijing's prestigious Tsinghua University.

Μύ

Robin Lustig will put questions from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's global audience to a distinguished panel of leading Chinese politicians and academics, and will seek the views of young Chinese students about the role of their country in the world and its emerging influence on the global stage.

Μύ

There is also a special microsite at bbcnews.com/china which, as well as offering in-depth analysis of many of the issues outlined above, will allow internet users in China and around the world to watch the special edition of Question Time from Shanghai.
