EastEnders star Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, is bringing down a celebrity team to face the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cornwall presenters at Bodmin Town's football ground on Sunday 20 February.

Dean Gaffney (who played Robbie), Jack Ryder (Jamie Mitchell) and Cliff Parisi (Minty Peterson) are amongst the stars taking on the footie challenge to raise money for a local football club.

Back in November, presenter Laurence Reed reported on Radio Cornwall that the changing rooms at Nanstallon Football Club had burned down.

This prompted Steve McFadden to contact the show and donate Β£1,000 to the cost of rebuilding the facilities.

Steve and Laurence then put their charity heads together and came up with the idea of holding a celebrity football match to help reach the Β£25,000 target the club has set to build full changing facilities.

Laurence Reed says: "This was one of the first youth clubs in the country, so it was terrible to hear about the fire.

"Straight away people from every corner of the county started to rally round to help them.

"It was absolutely superb that Steve heard our report, then to actually come in and give us his own money was mind-blowing.

"Cornwall is such a generous county and our listeners are always ready to give their support. This is going to be a fantastic day."

Nicci Holliday, Managing Editor at Radio Cornwall, comments: "Radio Cornwall is incredibly proud to be part of such a fantastic event for such a worthwhile cause.

"From the moment we first heard about the fire, we've rallied in support and the response from our listeners has been wonderful.

"We're looking forward to Sunday, but warning the EastEnders boys to watch out - our boys have been practising and are in it for the win!"

The event will take place on Sunday 20 February at Bodmin Town Football Club.

There will be plenty of fund-raising activities throughout the afternoon, with events kicking off at 2.00pm and the match starting at 3.00pm.
