Listeners on Zanzibar and Pemba can now hear Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service programmes
for the first time on FM.Μύ
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 94.1 FM in Zanzibar and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 93.5 FM in Pemba are now broadcasting
programmes in Swahili and English 24 hours a day thanks to an agreement
with state broadcaster Voice of Tanzania Zanzibar.Μύ
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programmes in Swahili include: Amka Na Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔΜύwhich
isΜύthe daily morning news programme; Dira ya DuniaΜύtakes
a topical look at what's happening across the world; and Leo
AfrikaΜύisΜύthe evening programme focusing on African news events
and stories.Μύ
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service also broadcasts programmes in English specifically
for Africa.
Network Africa sets the day's agenda with a popular
mix of news, sport, features and music.
Focus on Africa is a daily round-up of news and analysis
from around the continent and Africa Live!Μύ provides
the interactive format for the continent to connect.Μύ
For sports fans, Fast Track includes unrivalled news
and features on African sport.
Artbeat covers African artistic and cultural developments.
African Perspective takes an in-depth look at important
issues in the continent and African Performance showcases
the work of African playwrights.
There is also special coverage of events such as Fespaco, the African
film festival, and the African Cup of Nations.Μύ

been broadcasting in Swahili on short wave to Zanzibar since 1957 and
in English to both Zanzibar and Pemba for longer.Μύ

In addition to broadcasts on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 94.1 FM in Zanzibar and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 93.5
FM in Pemba, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programmes in Swahili can currently be heard in Zanzibar
and Pemba on Radio Free Africa and Radio One on medium wave.Μύ
Both stations broadcast Amka at 6.00am and Dira ya Dunia at 6.30pm
local time.
Starting on 1 April 2005 Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Swahili will revamp its programme schedule
(all times are local):Μύ
Amka changes from two half-hour daily editions to one 90-minute edition
starting at 6.00am;Μύ
Dira ya Dunia increases by 15 minutes to 60 minutes starting at 6.30pm,
and Leo Afrika increases by 15 minutes to 30 minutes and will start
15 minutes later at 9.00pm;
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Swahili has also added four five-minute news bulletins to accompany
the daily news bulletin which is already being broadcast at 1.00pm;
The additional news bulletins will be broadcast at 9.00am, 11.00am,
3.00pm and 5.00pm.Μύ
Radio Free Africa also broadcasts on 89.0 FM in Arusha, 89.8 FM in
Mwanza, 88.2 FM in Shinyanga and 88.8 FM in Mbeya.
Radio One also broadcasts on 89.5 FM in Dar es Salaam, 95.3 FM in Arusha,
100.8 FM in Dodoma, 102.5 FM in Mwanza; and on medium wave 1440 AM and
1323 AM.
