Gloucester
has been chosen as one of three venues across the country hosting a
free concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need.
The eyes of the nation will be on Gloucester, as live Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ cameras tune-in
to broadcast parts of the concert at the Barbican Car Park, Ladybellegate
Street.
Three chart-topping bands will perform alongside three local acts at
the event, to be held on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need night - Friday 19 November
2004.
Μύ
The starring acts will be announced nearer the time.
The entertainment extravaganza coincides with the hugely popular annual
TV event on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE, hosted by Terry Wogan and Gaby Roslin.
Μύ
Viewers on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE will also see updates from the other
two concerts being held in Hull and Carlisle.
Presenter Gaby Roslin says: "This is the 25th Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need
show and, since 1980, the public has helped us to raise more than Β£300m,
which is amazing.
Μύ
"I am delighted Gloucester will be hosting a massive
outdoor concert this year and hope everyone comes along to make this
special year a success."
Last year, the nationwide appeal raised a record-breaking Β£30m,
from which Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need gave grants to registered charities,
alongside voluntary and community groups, supporting youngsters aged
18 and under.
Μύ
They include children with disabilities or psychological
disorders and those who have suffered from serious illness, abuse, poverty
or neglect.
In Gloucestershire, 11 organisations received grants totalling Β£231,120.
Μύ
They included the Special Friends Club in Kingswood,
which received a grant of Β£11,745 over three years to provide
a variety of outings for children with learning difficulties.
Μύ
Share Young People's Counselling Service has received
Β£8,400 over two years, helping to make counselling accessible
to 11 to 14-year-olds in Gloucester.
Sarah-Jane Bungay, Children in Need producer for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ West, says: "This
is the fourth year that we have held major concerts in support of the
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need Appeal.
Μύ
"These regional events reach and enthuse parts
of the UK often overlooked by national broadcasters.
"It all culminates in a night of unmissable television on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE,
in which the whole nation can feel a part of the fantastic fundraising
that goes to help children in need of our support."
The Gloucester concert, being held at the several thousand capacity
venue near the Docks, is supported by ASDA.
Councillor Martyn White, Gloucester City Council's Cabinet Member for
Culture, Learning and Leisure, says: "The concert is great news
for residents and great news for the city. It's set to be a great night
and we hope residents and local businesses support the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children
in Need Appeal charity."

who desperately need help.
Every penny of every pound donated by the public goes to children who
need it.

the form of a five-minute radio broadcast on Christmas Day.
Μύ
It raised about Β£1,143 which equates to about
