Thomson, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Director of Policy and Legal, has been appointed President
of the Prix Italia.

Thomson, who succeeds Frank Freiling of ZDF Germany,
is the first woman to hold the presidency.
Caroline Thomson said: "The Prix Italia celebrates the very best
programming from around the world and I am honoured to have been elected."

Prix Italia was founded by the Italian public service
channel RAI in 1948.

It is the oldest of the major international broadcasting
festivals with a membership of 80 public and private radio and television
companies representing more than 40 countries from the five continents.

Originally a radio festival, the Prix Italia awards
prizes for the best drama, documentary and music & arts across radio,
television and the web.
James Graham, Honorary Life President, added: "We are delighted
to see Caroline Thomson take this prestigious office. She has exactly
the qualities the festival needs."
Previous UK presidents of Prix Italia include former Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Director-General
Charles Curran and European Commissioner, Lord Thomson.
