Tan Dun - Water Concerto: For Water Percussion and Orchestra

Μύ

Performed by Evelyn Glennie and broadcast live on
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3

Μύ

No, not a leaking roof but one of the most unusual combinations of instruments ever called for at a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Prom!

Μύ

World-renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie performs Tan Dun's Water Concerto: For Water Percussion and Orchestra, taking Prommers on a journey through the amazing colours of sound achieved through water.

Μύ

This highly visual and atmospheric percussion performance uses instruments made from regular items including water basins, sieves, foam paddles and wooden salad bowls.

Μύ

The Chinese-American composer Tan Dun won an Oscar for his music for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Μύ

Water Concerto belongs to a series of works highlighting natural materials, alongside the Water Passion After St Matthew; the opera Tea: A Mirror Of Soul, which makes use of ceramic, stone and paper instruments; and Inventions for Paper Instruments and Orchestra.

Μύ

The Water Concerto is performed in Prom 24 alongside music from Cage, Shostakovich and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
