Crimewatch UK has recruited two new police officers,
Jonathan Morrison and Rav Wilding,
to join the current studio line-up of Nick Ross, Fiona
Bruce, Jacqui Hames and Jeremy Paine.
Jonathan Morrison joined the Metropolitan Police in
2002 and is currently serving as a PC in Lewisham. He works on the response
team dealing with 999 calls.
Jonathan first decided to apply to join the Met after
watching a TV programme about a black police officer visiting a youth
centre.
He will make his first appearance on Crimewatch UK in
May 2004.
Jonathan said: "I'm very proud to be representing the
Met on Crimewatch, it's a fantastic opportunity for me. I'm really looking
forward to it."
Rav Wilding joined the Met in 2000 after four years
in the army. He is currently working as a detective in Peckham focusing
on burglaries.
This will not be Rav's first appearance on television
- he made his debut in the Channel 4 series Eden, in which he lived
in the Australian jungle for three months.
Rav said: "I've watched Crimewatch for most of my life
and I'm proud to be joining the team."
Crimewatch UK's other two police presenters Jacqui Hames
and Jeremy Paine will work on a rotational basis with Jonathan and Rav.
In May, Jonathan makes his Crimewatch UK debut alongside
Jackie and in June, Rav lines up alongside Jeremy and Jacqui.
Series Producer Sally Dixon says: "I believe that it's
vital that the Crimewatch UK team reflects the multi-racial society
in which we live, especially as the programme relies entirely on viewers
to pick up the phone and give the police information which could be
instrumental in solving crimes.
"I thought one way to address this would be to
approach the Black Police Association (BPA), which I did in February
this year, to ask for their help in spreading the word that we wanted
to recruit an officer from an ethnic minority background.
"The BPA were very supportive of my request and
as a result we found not one, but two officers in Jonathan and Rav.
They are both at ease in front of the camera and I'm sure will be a
great addition to our team."
About Crimewatch UK
Crimewatch UK was first broadcast on 7 June 1984 and
was originally commissioned for just three programmes.
Since the beginning, Crimewatch UK has worked in partnership
with police forces across the country, aiming to bring the police and
public together to solve crimes where the trail has gone cold.
The police have always had an important presence in
the studio.
Crimewatch UK is broadcast live on a monthly basis and
June 2004 marks the 20th year anniversary of the show.
Nick Ross has presented every single edition of Crimewatch
UK since the programme began, never missing an episode.
Fiona Bruce has co-presented Crimewatch UK since January
2000, and is one of the main presenters of the Ten O'Clock News.
This month, Crimewatch UK will be broadcast on Wednesday
26 May on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE.
