The Welsh proved they are the brainiest nation in Britain
during the live broadcast of Test the Nation: The IQ Test 2004 which
transmitted on Saturday 22 May on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ ONE.
During the live IQ Test the Welsh nation achieved a
triple result, coming top of the IQ league of nations (Wales - 110),
capital cities (Cardiff - 110) as well as towns and cities (Aberystwyth
- 111).
Of the audience groups that competed against each other
in the studio the doctors came top scoring an average
of 116, with the models coming last with 97.
The highest scorer in the studio was a Navy Doctor from
Aldershot in Hampshire, Catherine Doran, with an IQ
of 143.
The highest scoring celebrity in the studio was Eastenders
newcomer, actress Tracy-Ann Oberman (121).
People right across the four nations took part online,
using pen and paper and via digital TV sets.
The highest scoring internet user was 39-year-old Emma
Patterson, an IT worker from Wokingham. Emma, who has been
a member of Mensa since the age of 18, scored 150 in the test and confesses
to being a big Phillip Schofield fan.
In the battle of the sexes, the men came first for
the third year running with a score of 108 compared to women with 106.
Men have so far beaten the women on every Test the Nation
test except the Relationship test in 2003.
