Andy Whittaker, award winning presenter at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Derby, is celebrating his ten years at the helm of the ever popular Breakfast Show.

Radio Derby will be marking Andy's landmark show on Monday 26 April.

Andy has never overslept or been late for work in ten years, despite getting up at 4.00am each day.

Μύ

He has won an impressive list of awards, including a Sony Gold Award.

Μύ

He says: "I only ever intended to do the Breakfast Show for two years, never mind ten! But I like it so much because everyday is different.

Μύ

"I used to enjoy lounging around in bed till 10.00am before doing this job, but getting up early has really changed my lifestyle Β– I can't sleep in even at the weekends now!"

Μύ

Andy and the show hit the national headlines when a disgruntled Clare Short told him to "p*** off".

Μύ

But far from being put off he feels he is doing his ideal job Β– because he likes talking to people so much!

Μύ

Over the years he has interviewed thousands of people including John Hurt, Cliff Richard, Paddy Ashdown and Iain Duncan Smith.

The award winning broadcaster has lived in Yorkshire, Suffolk, Cheshire and Staffordshire, Birmingham and Australia.

Μύ

But having recently discovered his distant ancestors were miners in and around North Derbyshire only adds to his feeling that Derbyshire is his true home.

The Breakfast Show has won many awards over the last ten years including BT Midlands Radio News Broadcaster of the Year in 1999; BT Midlands News & Current Affairs Progamme of the year 2001; Sony Radio Academy Gold Award for News Output 2003; Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Local Radio Gillard Awards for Best Breakfast Show 2003 and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Local Radio Gillard Awards for Best News Coverage 2003.

And if that wasn't enough critical acclaim a local dairy farmer claims that since he has tuned in to Radio Derby's Breakfast Show during milking, his cows seem to have been a lot more relaxed.

Tune into The Breakfast Show, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Derby, on 104.5, 95.3 & 96 FM and 1116 AM.
