Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's viewing figures for the 2004 RBS Six Nations are up by 24 per cent on 2003 across the whole championship.

The average audience rose from 3.3 million in 2003 to 4.1 million in 2004.

Excluding England's fixtures, the average audiences to the other matches are up by 25 per cent, from 2.4 to 3.0 million.

Saturday night's (27 March) France v England game gained an average audience of 7.2 million and peaked at 7.7 million and was the most-watched programme on terrestrial television that night.

The highest audience of the tournament came to the Scotland v England game which peaked at 8.3 million.

Pat Younge, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Head of Rugby, said: "I'm delighted that we're continuing to attract even more viewers to rugby and whilst the figures for this year are excellent, I'm particularly pleased that since we took over the contract in 2002, average audiences across all matches are up by 78 per cent, going from 2.3 million to 4.1 million.

"This is a fantastic boost to the profile of the sport and the players, and doesn't include the tens of millions who listened to our radio coverage, accessed our interactive services or watched the complementary programmes ranging from Blue Peter to the Weakest Link."
