The Music Centre at White City - the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Music Community

The creation of the Music Centre will allow the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ to consolidate the activities of its musical ensembles in London and vacate unsuitable premises elsewhere.

Its function will be to act as a home for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Orchestra, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Chorus, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra, and the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers.

It will provide high quality facilities for public performances, recordings, and for use by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and outside musical ensembles.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Orchestra (SO) was London's first permanent orchestra. Its reputation as a pioneer of new music is long standing. For 70 years it has given the first performances of over 1,100 works, many of which were commissioned by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and have now become twentieth-century classics.

Its reputation for promoting the work of contemporary composers whilst embracing established masterpieces is thriving.

It plans for an increasingly adventurous future, continuing its position as one of the world's leading orchestras and fulfilling a key role in British cultural life.

The orchestra's busy schedule includes Invitation Concerts and studio recordings at its current home in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Maida Vale Studios, seasons at the London Barbican Centre and concerts at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms.

It undertakes an extensive programme of national and international touring and broadcasts regularly on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Chorus of 150 members performs frequently in concert and on record with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ SO, with other leading UK and foreign orchestras, and on its own.

It plays a vital and unique role within the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ as well as in the wider community, with a highly distinctive artistic profile and is arguably the finest non-professional chorus in the UK.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers occupy a unique position in British musical life as Britain's only full-time professional chamber choir.

World-renowned for their performances of contemporary music, the group has commissioned, premiered and recorded new works over 75 years by many of the twentieth-century's leading composers.

Alongside the commitment to new music, the group also performs and records choral music spanning five centuries. Their recordings explore some of the most challenging choral repertoire of the last 150 years.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra, in its 50th anniversary year, has earned the sobriquet of Britain's Best-Loved Orchestra.

Under Chief Conductor Barry Wordsworth it broadcasts regularly on Radio 2 and Radio 3 programmes and has carved a niche on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television. It provides soundtracks to many Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television programmes.

The repertoire has grown from providing light music into performing full-scale musicals, fully staged operas and concerts.

It has 56 members and is currently based at the Golders Green Hippodrome theatre in North London where it gives public performances to audiences of up to 600.
