Sherlock Travels to New Territories

Debonair detective Sherlock Holmes has charmed his way into new territory, with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide announcing new sales of the hit series to a further 12 broadcasters.

Joining the six territories who have already snapped up Sherlock are European buyers Russia (CH1 & CH5), Czech Republic (Czech TV) Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), Estonia (ETV), Serbia (RTS) and France (France Television).

New Zealand's national broadcaster TVNZ as well as Showcase in Canada have also signed up for the crime-solving drama. In South Africa (Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment Africa) and Latin American (Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment Latin America) Sherlock will be getting its debut, while closer to home Ireland (RTE) will also be screening Sherlock, bringing the total number of programme sales to 18.

Steve Macallister, Managing Director for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Sales & Distribution, says: "The great success Sherlock has had in the UK, and the continuing international demand confirm audiences are looking for gripping and creative storytelling. Hartswood Films has done a spectacular job of taking a beloved classic and reinventing it as a contemporary audience favourite."

Andrew Shaw, GM Commissioning, Production and Acquisitions, TVNZ agrees, saying: "Only rarely does a unique retelling of a timeless classic fall into your hands. I’m very happy to catch this one."

Inspired by the Arthur Conan Doyle classics, Sherlock stars award-winner Benedict Cumberbatch (Hawking) as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman (The Office) as his faithful partner Doctor John Watson. Sherlock is a Hartswood Films production for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ co-produced with MASTERPIECE.

Launched by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ last summer, Sherlock was broadcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One to critical and popular acclaim, becoming one of the channel's highest rating dramas of the year to date.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide will be launching a host of new dramas to the international television market at Mipcom, including Upstairs Downstairs, Outcasts, DCI Banks: Aftermath, The Deep, Mad Dogs and Misfits (S2).
