Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide heads to Brazil to host 7th Annual Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Showcase Latin America

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Latin America returns to the shores of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this August to host the 7th annual Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Showcase Latin America. Broadcasters from across the Latin American region as well as the U.S. Hispanic Market will be in attendance to preview the best of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide's catalog. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Showcase Latin America is the region's only television market hosted by a single distributor and will run from August 29th through August 31st at the JW Marriott located in Rio de Janeiro.

Packed with 50,000 hours of high-quality programming, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide’s catalog consists of nearly 2,000 hours of HD content, 575 hours of Spanish-language programs, as well as a variety of digital program offerings. The breadth and depth of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide's catalog covers a broad range of genres, from children's to comedy, to drama, science, and natural history – in which the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is a renowned world-leader. From traditional television broadcasters to digital and mobile buyers, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide catalog offers Latin American clients a wide variety of programming opportunities.

Matt Forde, Executive Vice President, Sales & Distribution, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide, Americas, said, "Latin America is a territory of vital importance to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide, and we're enjoying sustained growth across the region. Under Helen Jurado's leadership, our team has delivered solid sales figures as Latin American viewers continue to embrace Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programming. We're looking forward to revealing our latest line-up at this year’s event, which includes thrilling mysteries, and the latest and greatest in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ music programming."

Headlining this year's drama selections are three exceptional mystery series: Luther, Sherlock, and Wallander. Luther is a dark, psychological drama starring Idris Elba (The Wire, American Gangster) as John Luther, a near-genius murder detective struggling with his own terrible demons. Set in present day London, Sherlock is a witty, fast-paced take on the legendary crime drama, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement, The Last Enemy) as the eponymous detective, Martin Freeman (The Office UK, Hot Fuzz) as his loyal friend Doctor John Watson, and Rupert Graves (God on Trial, The Forsyte Saga) as Inspector Lestrade. Wallander, based on the wildly successful novels from Swedish author Henning Mankell, stars Kenneth Branagh as Kurt Wallander, a sensitive and brilliant detective – a man who takes each murder case he works on personally and will stop at nothing in his search for the truth, no matter what the expense. Also in the drama genre, Misfits follows five unruly teenagers who, after a freak electrical storm, each develop a superpower, a power they didn’t choose or want – a power which reveals each of their deepest, darkest, insecurities.

Leading the comedy genre is Alan Carr: Chatty Man, the talk show series that stars multi-award winning comedian Alan Carr, whose inimitable style of self-deprecating humor, camp innuendo and bubbly personality have won him legions of fans. Mongrels is a bold, mischievous, adult, puppet comedy series that centers around metrosexual urban fox, Nelson, and the characters he encounters upon moving to London. They may be furry, they may be feathered, they may be feral, but scratch their hairy surfaces and these guys are just five mixed-up kidults struggling with everyday emotional truths.

The next blockbuster series from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s renowned Natural History Unit is the awe-inspiring, heart-stopping, Human Planet; a majestic portrait of humankind and the power of nature in extraordinary symbiosis, struggle and strife. For the first time, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Natural History Unit has turned the camera on ourselves, illustrating how amazing human beings can be and how we adapt to any habitat, anywhere.

In the history genre, Atlantis takes viewers on a trip back to 1613 B.C, when a gigantic volcano in the Aegean Sea violently erupts, triggering the end of Europe's first great civilization - the Minoans. Rooted in the latest archaeological evidence, this landmark production brings this story to life through the eyes of the Minoan people.

How Earth Made Us, from the science genre, reveals how geology, geography and climate have had a far more powerful influence on mankind than previously acknowledged. With bold ideas and extraordinary HD camerawork, this visually stunning series offers a new version of human history. The Science of Crime focuses on the history of forensic science, from its early introduction to latest cutting-edge techniques.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide offers a fantastic selection of children’s titles, including hilarious teen comedy Wingin’ It. From the makers of Being Erica, Wingin’ It revolves around reckless angel-in-training Porter who has been sent to Earth to earn his wings. His task? Transform hapless student Carl into the most popular kid in the school. It's a tall order, because for 15-year-old Carl, anything that can go wrong generally will go wrong. Zingzillas, a musical series for younger children, features Zak, Tang, Panzee and Drum who make up the sensational music group ZingZillas; a band of primates who play fantastic music in an island paradise setting. Ranging from a full concert orchestra to a lone saxophonist or a bottle neck guitarist, this series celebrates musical genres from around the world.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide catalog includes an impressive selection of music series and specials. The classic late night series Later with Jools Holland offers live music, an intimate, relaxed studio audience peppered with celebrity guests, and an upbeat, jovial host. A ratings winner in the UK since its launch in 1992, Later...with Jools Holland features an eclectic mix of music from a range of artists, crossing all genres and levels; superstar, established and breakthrough. Other standout music titles include Glastonbury, featuring rising and established acts from the world’s largest music festival, and Radio 1 Big Weekend 2010, a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 event featuring 60 musical acts, including Alicia Keys and Rihanna.

Space Dive is a ground-breaking title from the Documentary / Lifestyle genre. In 2010, Elite Base jumper Felix Baumgartner will attempt a historic freefall from a staggering 125,000 feet: a jump that will qualify him as the first person to break the sound barrier without propulsion. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ will document Felix’s incredible journey, from his preparations for the momentous jump to the actual dive.

Join a thousand Lonely Planet authors and photographers as they scour the planet in search of the most amazing travel experiences in the Lifestyle series Roads Less Traveled. Go behind-the-scenes to discover what adventures and misadventures the travel writers go through in order to fulfill an assignment. Another Lifestyle title, Fat & Fatter is a startling documentary series that sees eight overweight British people head to four parts of the world where obesity levels are shockingly high - America, Kuwait, Argentina, and Greece - to live with a host family that includes obese family members. They eat the same food, share their lifestyle, and most alarmingly, are exposed to a series of experiences that reveal the dark truth about this life-threatening disease.

On the Formats front, Bank of Mum & Dad focuses on six young people whose spending and debt are way out of control as they hand over the reins of their finances to their parents for an entire week. Mom and Dad move in, devise a new set of spending rules, and enforce the new regime while being guided by a financial expert. Among the tears and tough-talking, will reality sink in or will the money keep flowing?
