Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Channels has acquired award-winning drama and comedy titles for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment in Africa.
From Miranda Hart's hilarious turn as the eponymous heroine of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two comedy, Miranda, to the powerful performances in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One's The Street, the titles feature some of the UK's best known faces in territory premieres across Africa.
Bun Scrase-Dickins, VP Acquisitions, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Channels said, "We're always on the lookout for high quality programmes that not only fit well with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ brand, but also resonate with our international audiences. These shows have been popular in the UK and we're delighted to deliver them to audiences in Africa on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment."
Critically-acclaimed sitcom Miranda (6 x 30') follows the comic misadventures of the title character played by Miranda Hart. Due to years of agoraphobic tendencies Miranda can't quite grasp how to behave socially and constantly fails to avoid embarrassing situations, especially around men. The semi-autobiographical role earned Hart a Royal Television Society (RTS) award for Best Comedy Performance in March this year. The first series will air on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment from October 2010.
New to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment is the emotionally powerful series, The Street, (series one, two and three, 6 x 60') from BAFTA award-winning writer Jimmy McGovern. Running with the tagline, 'behind every door in every street, there's a story waiting to be told', each episode concentrates on a different house in its North of England setting. Starring some of Britain's finest actors, including Jim Broadbent, Jane Horrocks, Sue Johnston and Timothy Spall, The Street was the winner of both the 2007 BAFTA and 2010 RTS award for Best Drama Series. Series one will air in Africa from August 2010.
Both series are distributed by ITV Global.
