Sherlock finds a home on the Nine Network

The dazzling contemporary re-imagining of Sherlock Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔs will air on the Nine Network later this year following a deal with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Australia.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, Hartswood Films' dynamic new series of Sherlock (3x90') brings one of fiction’s most famous creations to the 21st Century and a whole new generation of audiences.

Set in modern day London, Sherlock, an analytical deduction fanatic, is helping the police out with their enquiries for fun. Dr John Watson, fresh from serving in the war in Afghanistan and initially sceptical, is soon drawn in by Holmes' brilliant mind and dangerous lifestyle and the two quickly forge an alliance. Sherlock provides the inspired leaps of intellect while Watson keeps his friend’s flights of fancy grounded, culminating in the perfect partnership.

"Sherlock is sure to capture the imagination of fans old and new with its combination of classic detective work and contemporary crime", said Amber Knight, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Australia's Head of TV Sales.

"This new production of Sherlock will be a valuable addition to our schedule later this year", added Michael Healy of the Nine Network, "The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ produce this style of drama well and audiences in Australia traditionally embrace it."

Sherlock is co-created and written by the recently appointed head writer for Doctor Who, Stephen Moffat and fellow Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss. The stellar line-up includes BAFTA nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (Hawking) in the title role of Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman (The Office, Love, Actually) as Doctor John Watson.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman helped launch Sherlock at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Showcase 2010 along with Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Showcase is the world's largest television market hosted by a single distributor. Over 500 content buyers from all parts of the globe will attend the annual event, where over1000 hours of the latest British content will be on view.
