Media icon Good Food Magazine's 20 year recipe for success

Good Food Magazine celebrates its 20th anniversary with a bumper November issue, in which Jamie Oliver describes Good Food magazine as "an institution and a community for so many people".

The November issue features a record number of recipes, including a free recipe book containing 80 best loved Good Food dishes.

The iconic magazine, which launched in 1989 now has a readership of 1,029,000 and has cemented its place at the top of the food category. It is now the eighth most popular paid for monthly magazine in the UK. In the past month the website, bbcgoodfood.com passed 1.5 million unique users for the first time.

Publishing director Alfie Lewis said: "Good Food magazine not only created a new category when it launched, but has remained the highest-selling cookery title its entire life and now has three sister titles. For the millions of people in the UK who are passionate about cooking and eating well, practical help and inspiration for the kitchen will always be a high priority. This, along with the apparently constant supply of TV shows on the subject, has continued the growth of interest in magazines about cooking and food, allowing the sector to outperform most markets during this recession."

He continued: "With our triple tested principle as the 'visible hand' behind the title's success, we are now offering consumers an ever more diverse way of accessing our brand , in print through the magazine, books and bookazines; online through the website and mobile and face to face through our Good Food shows."

In the November issue, The Good Food team pick their top 20 cook books; Mary Cadogan, Food Director of Good Food for 12 years, revisits some of her best loved recipes and gives them a 21st century update and the team remembers classic British puds and bakes. Also in the issue - 400 entrants are whittled down to five as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cook of the Year competition draws to a close, James Martin begins festive baking, the Good Food team rustles up some easy party food for Firework night and Jamie Oliver reflects on 10 years as a chef.
