Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Channels announced today a significant increase of 36% in the subscriber base among pay-TV viewers for its two wholly-owned channels, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment and CBeebies, throughout Latin America. Through a distribution agreement with Televisa Networks, both channels now enjoy a presence in 14 countries. The announcement comes on the heels of the first anniversary of the channels' launch in Mexico in August 2008.
One of the nations with the fastest growing distribution is Peru, where Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment and CBeebies are already available to more than 38% of pay-television households in the country. The steady growth following the January 2009 launch was driven by Peruvian cable industry leader Cable Magico and its strong expansion initiatives for the development of its digital package. Following additional distribution efforts, both channels are now available to 67% of Sky's Central America digital subscriber base, entertaining viewers in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama.
"We are very pleased to have accomplished this level of distribution in Latin American for our newly launched channels in such a short period," said Darren Childs, Managing Director, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Channels. "Our accomplishments in the region at all business levels reflect the high quality of our content, as well as the strength of our partnership with Televisa Networks."
Bruce Boren, Vice-President, Televisa Networks commented, "The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ brand brings a complete set of incomparable values to Televisa Networks' already diverse portfolio of offerings. We are honoured with the opportunity to support the establishment of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment and CBeebies in the region."
"Viewers are increasingly showing appreciation for our channels", said Jessica Rodriguez, Senior VP and General Manager, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Channels Latin America and U.S. Hispanic. "In July, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment saw its best rating and share performance to date, and research is showing us that CBeebies enjoys a higher concentration of our target audience as compared to some of other well established children's channels(*)."
In November 2008, CBeebies was also made available to Spanish-speaking viewers in the U.S. through DISH Network's DishLATINO packages, the most widely distributed Hispanic offering in the U.S. This deal marked the first venture of the CBeebies brand in the U.S. Collectively, the channel’s distribution in Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market already accounts for 34% of the brand’s households internationally (outside the UK).
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment showcases the most talked about and critically acclaimed shows - from the popular sci-fi hit Torchwood and charming drama Being Erica to the provocative late night chat show The Jonathan Ross Show. It also brings for the first time to Latin America marquee series such as Top Gear, Dragons' Den, Gordon Ramsay's The F- Word, The Apprentice (UK) and Secret Millionaire. A refreshing alternative among Latin American pay-television channels, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment has already won a fan base – with a mix of content across different programming genres such as drama, comedy, lifestyle, science fiction and reality, viewers spend more time watching Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Entertainment than some already established channels. Specifically designed for the youngest of viewers and the number one preschool channel in the UK, CBeebies brings to preschoolers educational, yet entertaining programming with the quality and integrity of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ name. Award-winning series such as In the Night Garden, Charlie and Lola, Tweenies and Teletubbies provide a wide range of themes and promote learning through active play. Although CBeebies is targeted at a preschool audience, the channel and programming is specifically designed to be interactive, encouraging parents and caregivers to be involved in the child's viewing experience. CBeebies offers parents and caregivers a trustworthy viewing environment for their children, and supports the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's core values to inform, educate and entertain.
