If
you are clearing out a loft, bottom drawer or garage and want to
know how to pick a saleable item from amongst the junk - then this
book is the ultimate practical guide.
Cash
in the Attic, published in February 2004 by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Books, demystifies
the antiques business by explaining how to spot a treasure and how
to sell it.
Paul
Hayes, one of the programme's antiques experts, looks at different
categories of collectables, from paintings to china, to clocks,
glassware, furniture, jewellery and toys - even board games. Paul
reveals his tips on getting started, styles and periods, how to
date an item, how to value it and how to tell a genuine article
from a fake.
Not
only does Paul explain what to look for and how to assess the quality
of your discoveries, he also offers advice on the selling process,
whether through an auction house, the internet or a car boot sale.
This book will help you to clearly identify what you have, and give
you an idea of how much money it could raise.
With
a foreword by series presenter Alistair Appleton, Cash in the
Attic also contains multiple-choice quizzes, checklists and
handy contact addresses. This is a must-have book for anyone embarking
on the antiques world for the first time.
Series
3 of Cash in the Attic will appear on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One in Spring 2004.

Notes
to editors: About
the author
Paul Hayes, Cash in the Attic's resident antique's expert, was born
into the antiques business - his father was a dealer and by the
age of six Paul was buying and selling Dinky Toys. At the age of
19 he set up business with his father. For the past ten years Paul
has operated as a trade dealer, travelling around the country buying
items from the public and selling them on to his contacts within
the antiques trade. He also has a stall at the Sunday market at
Charnock Richards near Preston.
Paul
was discovered by chance by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ1's Bargain Hunt programme
in February 2002 and went on to appear as one of the regular experts.
In January 2001 he was asked to appear as the antiques specialist
on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ1's popular daytime show Housecall, on which he still appears
live every week. He has filmed two series of Cash in the Attic,
broadcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ daytime. The third series will air in Spring 2004.
Paul has recently been appointed the antiques expert on Crimewatch
UK, talking about stolen goods. Cash in the Attic is his first book.
