the British Film Institute's chart of the Best 100 Television Shows
of all times, Old Grey Whistle Test was the highest placed music
show, ahead of Top of the Pops, Ready Steady Go, Later with Jools
Holland and The Tube.
'Old
Grey Whistle Test Volume 3' is the last chapter in the DVD tribute
to the UK's most influential live music show. The DVD is packed
with some of the music industry's most important artists making
their television debuts.
The
performances range from the early days of David Bowie singing 'Oh
You Pretty Things' in 1972, through to The Bangles with 'Walk Like
An Egyptian' in 1986. Other classic performances include Steppenwolf's
'Born To Be Wild', Al Stewart singing 'Year Of The Cat', BB King's
'When It All Comes Down', The Jam performing 'A Bomb In Wardour
Street', King Crimson's 'Frame By Frame' and Jesus & Mary Chain's
'In A Hole'.
Also
included are newly filmed interviews with presenter Bob Harris,
founding producer Mike Appleton and musicians Roger Daltrey, Hamish
Stuart, Roddy Frame, Rick Wakeman, Nick Lowe, Robin Trower, Edwyn
Collins, Jools Holland and Bob Geldof talking about how the Whistle
Test team put Live Aid together.
Special
features include a commentary by original presenters Mark Ellen,
David Hepworth and Andy Kershaw, an artists' gallery, a view by
year and a view by presenter.
