Fools and Horses: 1996 Christmas Specials
The
Only Fools and Horses 1996 Christmas special Heroes and Villains
is the most memorable of all time according to a survey carried
out by the Evening Standard. And now it's being released for the
first time on DVD along with the rest of the trilogy: Modern Men
and Time On Our Hands.
In
Heroes and Villains Del isn't having much luck trying to sell Latvian
radio alarm clocks, aerodynamic cycling helmets that turn out to
be horse-riding helmets, and a box of baseball caps that no self
respecting teenager would ever wear. To add to his woes, his application
for a home improvement grant for new kitchen units has been rejected.
Heroes
and Villains also features the unforgettable 'Batman and Robin'
scene. Del convinces Rodney to go to a publican's fancy dress ball
dressed as Batman and Robin, which predictably ends in disaster!
En route, they prevent Councillor Murray from being mugged and the
following day, Del is awarded a bravery medal for his crime-fighting
heroism.
In
the second of the 1996 Christmas specials, Modern Men, little Damien
is growing up fast, but not much else has changed in Nelson Mandela
House as Del Boy, Rodders and Uncle Albert continue to lurch from
one disaster to another.
With
the help of a New Man's manual, Del is learning to pay proper attention
to Raquel - if only she'd stop talking while he's trying to read.
Meanwhile Rodders, "accustomed to the security of an irregular
wage", is applying for a new job. Can the Trotter business
empire survive without him?
Finally,
in Time On Our Hands, it seems like the usual Trotter farce: Raquel's
parents visiting for dinner, Uncle Albert making coffee instead
of gravy, Rodney doing a stock take (artificial leg, Showaddywaddy
LPs)... Until Raquel's antique dealing Father discovers a VERY valuable
watch in the lock up. Before you can say "this time next year
Rodders..." our heroes are in Sotheby's, about to realise their
dreams and finally become - MILLIONAIRES!!
Only
Fools and Horses has won 13 top comedy awards, including two Best
Comedy BAFTA's, and for his portrayal of Del, David Jason has received
nine personal awards - making a total of 22 awards in all. Lovely
Jubbly!
These
classic Only Fools and Horses specials will be available to buy
separately or together in a fantastic DVD box set from all good
retailers.
