600 hours of new Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programming set for international audience

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide will present more than 600 hours of new programming, from across the full range of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ output, at the Mipcom TV programme market in Cannes (October 10-14th 2003). The line-up includes top quality drama, entertainment, natural history, science, music, history and the very best in children's programming.

Byron (2 x 75 mins) leads the drama line-up, starring Jonny Lee Millar (Trainspotting), Vanessa Redgrave (The Gathering Storm, Wilde) and Natasha Little (Man and Boy, Spooks). The ultimate rebel who became famous overnight, Byron revolutionised English poetry and scandalised London society. This powerful drama is directed by Julian Farino (Flesh and Blood) and written by Nick Dear (Persuasion). Byron is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ co-production with A&E.

Real animals are the stars of Pride (1 x 90 mins), the groundbreaking, live-action family drama, set against the visually stunning backdrop of East Africa. The combination of breathtaking natural history footage, cutting-edge animation, high profile voice cast and a skillful script by Simon Nye, allow the animals to tell their own story. Voice cast includes Kate Winslet (Titanic, Iris), Helen Mirren (Gosford Park, Prime Suspect) and Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Golden Eye). Pride is produced by John Downer and is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/A&E co-production in association with ProSieben.

The epic Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Natural History series Wild Australasia (6 x 50 mins) journeys through time and space to explore Australasia's natural wonders. From tropical jungles and vast shallow coral reefs to burning deserts and snowy mountains, Wild Australasia reveals its hidden secrets and explains why its wildlife and wilderness are so special. Produced by Neil Nightingale (The Private Life of Plants), this is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/Animal Planet/ABC Australia co-production.

From the producers of The Blue Planet, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide presents Nile - Land of Crocodiles and Kings (3 x 50 mins), the fascinating story of the longest river in the world. It takes the viewer soaring above the great river itself, through arid deserts and steamy jungles, over snow-capped mountains, and deep into lakes to discover lost cities. Produced by Martha Holmes (Blue Planet), Nile - Land of Crocodiles and Kings is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/ Discovery Channel co-production.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Science presents Body Snatchers (3 x 50 mins). Body Snatchers is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/TLC co-production and is produced by Helen Thomas, Alice Harper and Martin Belderson.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is planning a major season of programming to mark the anniversary of World War II, including D Day - the story of the largest military invasion and defence the world has ever seen. Produced by Richard Dale (The Human Body, Walking with Cavemen, Teachers), D-Day redefines the genre of drama documentary in factual storytelling.

Pompei - The Last Day (1 x 50 mins), gives us a first hand account of the terrifying last moments of a city caught in a volcanic death trap. Combining detailed reconstructions, expert investigations, and lavish CGIs, Pompei - The Last Day, follows soldiers, slaves and families, to recreate a vivid and engaging account of the last day of Pompei. The programme is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/Discovery Channel co-production.

Fightbox (20 x 26 mins) heads Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide's entertainment line-up. Combining TV, Internet and computer gaming, this is a new sporting concept in which potential contestants log on to the Fightbox website to build a virtual warrior on screen, trained to the highest specification. If their creation makes it into the top 60 players they will be able to battle in the Fightbox Arena in front of a live studio audience. With executive producers Nick Southgate and Finbar Hawkins, this is a Fightbox production for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

New animated entertainment series Popetown (10 x 24 mins) is about the idealistic, if slightly incompetent Father Nicholas and his struggle against the insanity and bureaucracy of the comical world of Popetown, a crazy and very irreverent place! Featuring the voices of Jerry Hall, Ruby Wax and Mackenzie Crook (The Office), Popetown is a CHX production in association with MJTV for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

New children's programming from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide includes Carrie's War (1 x 90 mins). Confronting his own fears and his enemies will help him understand what happened there so many years ago. Starring Sheila Hancock (Close Relations, Bait) and Lindsey Coulson (EastEnders, Murder Rooms), this is a Childsplay production for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

In 1717, King George I took to the River Thames to experience the only performance of Handel's Water Music as it was originally intended - until nowΒ… Handel: The Water Music (1 x 60 mins) brings together experts on naval architecture, environmental sound and urban history along with 35 musicians (in 18th century costume) to recreate that first performance. Produced by Suzy Klein, with Trevor Hampton as musical director, this is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide/OpusArte co-production.

Bible Mysteries (9 x 50 mins) is a fascinating series of programmes, using drama re-enactments and CGI graphics, to explore great figures and events from biblical times. Did Joseph actually have a coat of many colours? Was Mary Magdalene really a prostitute? This series answers these questions and many more. Bible Mysteries is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/Discovery Channel co-production.
