Illustrated: Plant Profiles
Edited
by Rosie Atkins
Inspired
by one of the most popular features in Gardens Illustrated magazine,
this beautifully presented book brings together 25 plant profiles,
personally chosen by the founding editor of the magazine, Rosie
Atkins, in one lavish, highly illustrated volume.
Written
by a band of well-known plant experts, including Beth Chatto, Noel
Kingsbury and Martyn Rix, each profile includes essential information
on the origin of each species and descriptions of notable varieties,
together with comprehensive details on cultivation and propagation.
Lilies and lavenders are among the plants chosen for their summer
elegance, while irises and snowdrops are featured for their resilience
in winter. With each expert sharing their specialist knowledge and
enthusiasm for a particular plant, readers are encouraged to introduce
new species into their own gardens.
Divided
into five sections covering Early Risers, Sun Seekers, Show Stoppers,
Strong Performers and Curiosities, Plant Profiles highlights the
diversity of the plant families featured and also includes an invaluable
list of international suppliers and collections, recommended by
the plant experts themselves and Gardens Illustrated magazine.
Complete
with 200 colour photographs from the world's most dedicated specialist
plant photographers, Plant Profiles is an inspiring and compelling
book for both new and experienced gardeners alike.
Rosie Atkins spent 15 years working for the Sunday Times before
becoming a freelance garden writer for various national newspapers.
In 1987 she and her family spent a year travelling around the world,
which furthered her interest in how other people gardened. In 1992
she started working on the launch of Gardens Illustrated and was
the Editor of the magazine for ten years. She left in 2002 to become
Curator of the famous Chelsea Physic Garden in London.
