"A
rich, darkly comic and beautifully observed performance" -
The Times
Joanna
Lumley stars in Up in Town, a series of six critically acclaimed
10-minute monologues written, directed and produced by Hugo Blick
(Marion and Geoff, A Small Summer Party).
Eighteen
years after her executive husband failed to return home one day
from working 'up in town', Madison Blakelock attempts to embrace
her 'new life' as a divorcee, whilst firmly clutching onto her past.
As she paints her face with considerable care, beneath an unforgiving
light, slowly the meticulous façade Madison has created crumbles…
With
the loss of love, friends, money and even her cat, Madison seeks
refuge in the past, recounting poignant episodes in her seemingly
tragic life. Despite these, Madison still manages to put energy
into the bright future she believes lurks just around the corner.
In
a series of marvellously crafted monologues, Blick creates a unique
character in Madison, as she reveals, little by little, how at odds
with reality her fantasy world really is.
A Baby
Cow Production, Up in Town was executively produced by Steve Coogan
and Henry Normal. The DVD extras include: extended episodes, dream
sequences, a commentary by Hugo Blick & Joanna Lumley and scene
selection.
