Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide Press Releases

05.03.03

Big things come in small packages!

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audiobooks will be giving consumers more words for less money by releasing a range of popular audios on MP3 CD.

From April 3rd 2003, 6 best-selling titles from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audiobooks collection will be available to purchase on this emerging format which can provide up to 10 times the content of a standard CD.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audiobooks is the only audio book publisher in the UK to be releasing MP3 CDs and aims to be at the leading edge of bringing new technologies to audio book consumers.

Initially six titles will be introduced, all retailing at Β£19.99:

  • The Hobbit
  • Dead Ringers Volume 1, 2 and 3
  • The Complete Fawlty Towers
  • The Complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  • Doctor Who: Web of Fear and the Abominable Snowman
  • Doctor Who: The Dalek's Master Plan

MP3 CD is a format which brings clear benefit to the consumer. Up to 15 hours of spoken word content can be compressed onto one CD. This gives the user the benefit of fewer discs at a comparably lower cost to a standard CD or cassette format. Consumers can listen on MP3 compatible CD players, CD walkmans, PC's and DVD players. The range will be available to purchase online at .

If the initial trial is a success, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audiobooks will release further titles in 2003.

Stephen Davies, International Development Director, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audiobooks, said: "There is no doubt that advances in digital technology will bring enormous benefits to the audio book listener - greater flexibility, better quality and the potential for more content for less money. MP3-CD is one format that delivers these benefits. We see this as a terrific example of a broader Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audiobooks strategy to explore the ways in which innovation in technology can make the listening experience more pleasurable and better value for money."
