A Complete History of Britain

VHS and DVD Release: 18th November 2002

"Think of A History of Britain as an adventure in self-recognition, a way to see ourselves in a mirror of time, because it's only when we know what we have been, can we begin to understand our place in the scheme of things, to discover as a nation who we are Β…and believe me, it's a wild ride." Simon Schama

Award winning historian Simon Schama presents the ground-breaking A History of Britain and the entire epic series is now available in one complete box set on video and DVD.

All 15 episodes of this landmark programme are now presented in one complete set and the DVD features the inaugural Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ History Magazine lecture given by Simon Schama on 'Television and the Trouble With History'. It also features an exclusive interview with Simon Schama, filmed specially for the DVD and a discussion with him with Mark Lawson from 'The Rest is History'. It includes a detailed biography chronicling his career and also a score of the original music from the series.

This highly acclaimed series explores life's grand themes through Britain's rich and colourful history and British historian Schama explains the changing times in his own unique story-telling manner. He paints a brilliant portrait of the life of our people and asks questions of compelling importance for our future as well as our past.

The story weaves a rich tapestry of people and events that influenced the making of modern Britain. Filmed across the UK, France, Ireland and India - at stunning locations and national heritage sites - the programmes are populated not just with kings and queens but with philosophers and poets, artists and artisans, the common man and the new woman, the thinkers and the doers.

Readings in the series are by, among others, James Bolam, Kenneth Cranham, Charles Dance, Amelia Fox, John Kavanagh, Jonathan Pryce, Prunella Scales, Juliet Stevenson and David Threlfall.
