04.10.02 I'm
Alan Partridge - on DVD
Alan
Partridge was a happily married successful chat show host with his
own show 'Knowing Me, Knowing You'. Until, that is, he accidentally
killed one of his guests, biffed a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ boss with a dead chicken,
and his wife ran off with her fitness trainer. Now he hosts the
graveyard shift on Radio Norwich from 4.30 am to 7.00 am with a
show imaginatively entitled "Up With The Partridge", whilst
living at the Linton Travel Lodge Hotel.
I'm
Alan Partridge is now available to buy on DVD and includes all 6
episodes of the series. DVD extras include two commentaries, one
with Steve Coogan, Armando Ianucci and Peter Baynham who created
and wrote the series, and the other with Alan Partridge himself
and his personal assistant Lynn. There's also 20 minutes of out-takes
and deleted scenes.
Even
though interviewing the son of the man who invented 'cats eyes'
at 4.35 am on the radio may have its moments, Alan is desperate
for a television comeback. Over lunch to discuss his future with
a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ bigwig, after being turned down for a second series of his
chat show, he desperately pitches programme ideas such as 'Cooking
In Prison', 'Monkey Tennis' 'Knowing M.E., Knowing You', 'Arm Wrestling
With Chas 'n' Dave' and 'Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank'. Running
riot through the restaurant, threatening diners with a rather large
piece of Stilton, doesn't really help his pitch.
This
brilliant character was the brainchild of the extremely talented
Steve Coogan. Alan Partridge first appeared in 1991 on the Radio
4 show 'On The Hour' where he was a sports reporter, doing for sports
what 'It's A Knockout' did for European integration. He was first
seen on television in 1994 on 'The Day Today' as a sports reporter
and commentator, which spawned his very own chat show 'Knowing Me,
Knowing You Β…. With Alan Partridge'.
In
this innovative series 'I'm Alan Partridge' Alan still has a penchant
for Argyll sweaters, his beloved Rover car and his long-suffering,
devoted P.A., Lynne. The Times newspaper described him as 'a breath
of fetid air, altogether reprehensible and brilliantly British'.
