02.07.02 Relive
the historic Golden Jubilee again and again
The Queen's triumphant jubilee weekend to be released on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ
Video 22 July 2002
Following
what was the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's most ambitious live broadcasting operation in
its history, David Dimbleby introduces a video memoir of the remarkable
weekend that captured the public's imagination. This splendid souvenir
provides a look back over the spectacular four days, which confirmed
the Queen as treasured figurehead for the proud British people,
the Commonwealth and even the world at large.
David Dimbleby said, "I was not involved in the broadcasting
of the Silver Jubilee so I remember it for our own street party
- with barbecues on Putney Common and children running races. For
the Golden Jubilee, I had a grandstand seat outside Buckingham Palace.
It was a spectacular place to watch the grand parade down The Mall
and the fireworks."
Over
forty hours of coverage on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ television and radio has been condensed
down to a magnificent memento of the country's celebrations during
the Jubilee weekend in early June, during which hundreds of millions
of viewers from all around the world - including the USA, Australia,
Canada, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, France, India,
Sweden, Ireland, Germany and Denmark - tuned in to see and hear
the celebrations.
A team
of more than 500 people, 150 cameras, 150 trucks and approximately
1000 miles of cable provided the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's coverage of the Queen's golden
jubilee. Nick Vaughan-Barratt, Creative Director, Events, who was
the overall director of the jubilee events said, "I was privileged
to play a very minor role in the silver jubilee as a junior Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ
trainee. A quarter of a century later, to be asked to co-ordinate
the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's coverage of this unique and historic occasion was a thrill
beyond measure and I will never forget the intense sense of pride
I felt to be part of such an impressive operation."
