terror of the Daleks revealed
Ever
since the escapades of The Daleks first came to public attention
in fictional form in Doctor Who nearly 40 years ago, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has
been keeping a secret dossier on this deadly breed of embossed exterminators.
Now, in an unprecedented step, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide is publishing its dossier
in the form of a manual, The Dalek Survival Guide, to provide the
public with the information they need to withstand the inevitable
- a Dalek Attack.
"Our
sources tell us that, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Doctor
Who, an attack is more likely than at any other time in human history",
says Ben Dunn, the commissioning editor at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide. "That's
why we've decided to go public and tell the truth about The Daleks
in the hope that a deeper understanding of their psychology, their
anatomy and their evolutionary antecedents will enable people to
take preventative action."
The
essential manual will be published on 10 October 2002, price Β£9.99,
but the authors have decided to remain nameless as a precaution.
The collection of articles, features and letters includes:
- the
story of the Daleks' evolution from vulnerable fleshy beings,
to the ruthless killing machines they now are
- a
psychological analysis of their character - have they been unfairly
maligned, and are they really nice underneath?
- An
analysis of their anatomy, complete with cross-sectional drawings
- how do they reproduce and can they go up stairs?
- A
look at their social structure and belief systems - KNOW YOUR
ENEMY!
The
book is lavishly illustrated with original drawings depicting a
Dalek city, a speculative view of London after a Dalek attack, their
range of armoury, and much much more. Bookshops brave enough to
run window displays of this book in the run-up to Christmas face
possible attack by the Daleks and are being advised to take out
insurance. Sales are expected to be buoyant but purchasers are advised
to be discreet.
