Like Us - Series 1 on VHS

Starring
comedian Chris Langham as Roy Mallard, an enthusiastic yet inept
reporter travelling around middle England making fly-on-the-wall
documentaries on the lives of 'people like us' - the nations unknown
professionals.
'People
Like Us' originally began as a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 series and won several
awards, including a British Comedy Award. It was quickly commissioned
for a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TWO television series and went on to win a Royal Television
Society Award for Best Sitcom and Drama, closely followed by the
Silver Rose of Montreux in the Comedy category.
In
an attempt to get under the skin of what it's really like to be
one of the country's unsung workers, Roy travels across the nation
to interview a variety of subjects. In his characteristically indiscreet
bungling manner, Roy wreaks havoc wherever he goes. He takes more
than a professional interest in estate agent Madelaine Goddard,
gets assaulted by a disappointed applicant for a teaching post,
and takes on more than he bargained for when he spends time on duty
with police officer David Knight.
He
also follows photographer Will Rushmore who has given up his safe
job in town planning to devote himself to his art, spends a day
with the managing director of Zenotec - a company fighting to keep
afloat in the stimulating environment of surface mount technology,
and follows the trails and tribulations of a small firm of solicitors
in Cheshire.
In
a TV first, Roy, the main character, is always out of shot. This
cleverly emphasises his often ludicrous monotone commentary. On
winning the Golden Rose award, actor Chris Langham commented, "If
this success continues I should become one of the least known faces
on television".
